- 1 oz. Orange curacao or Triple Sec
- 4-8 Mint Leaves
- 3 Lemon Wedges
This cousin to the Mint Julep was the creation of the famous 19th century bartender Dale DeGroff. While working in the Rainbow Room in New York City, Dale wanted non-whiskey drinkers to be awed by the combination of mint and citrus flavors and forget it was whiskey they were enjoying.
In this concoction, the lemon and the mint softens the bite of a whiskey/bourbon cocktail. This cocktail is perfect for people who want to enjoy a subtle whiskey/bourbon cocktail.
In ancient Gael (now the U.K.), it was said that the people from this area are the original whiskey makers. The product that they produce was called uisgebeatha (pronounced oosh’gee) which means ‘water of life’. If whiskey, in any of it’s forms - whiskey, scotch and bourbon - is the water of life, than the Whiskey Smash is the perfect way to honor what is good in life. Cheers!!
