St Charles Breeze
- 1oz. Gin
- ½ oz. Chartreuse
- 2oz. Lime Juice
- Mint leaves (muddled)
- Slices of Cucumber (muddled)
- Splashes of Sprite, Soda or Tonic Water
In the summer of 2014, Columns Hotel’s former head bartender - Zachary Vaughn, developed this summertime cocktail with gin lovers in mind. The cocktail is inspired by the location of the hotel, which is on the St. Charles streetcar line. Also, the name is invoking the idea that this refreshing libation is to be enjoyed on a long, hot and humid New Orleans summer. The choice of Chartreuse is apt for this drink as it contains 130 herbs, plants and flowers and is a 16th Century recipe made by Monks whose monastery is located in the Chartreuse mountains.
After tasting this refreshing and herbal concoction, we loved the flavor balance and could almost feel the breeze drifting off the Chartruese mountains.
This Columns Hotel original cocktail creation is one of a long line of creative libations that are the hallmark of this New Orleans institution. Cheers!
