Ramos Gin Fizz

  • 1 ½ oz Gin
  •  ¼ oz lime
  • ¼ oz lemon
  • 1 egg white
  •  ¾ oz simple syrup
  • 1 tsp of half and half
  • 6 dashes of orange flower water
  • Sparkling water or club soda
  • Orange peel for garnish
Combine all ingredients with ice in a shaker (except sparkling water).
Shake vigourously for 90 seconds.
Pour into a tall glass and add sparkling water till you achieve a fizz. Garnish with an orange peel.

While there are many variations of the Fizz we are glad that the one created by Henry C. Ramos around the 1880’s endured. Not only because it was invented in New Orleans but because it’s a perfect drink for the long languid summers of Louisiana.  “One poetical sipper eulogized it thus: “It’s like drinking a flower!” (Stanley Clisby Arthur- Famous New Orleans Drinks and How to Mix ‘em, 1937)

We like to think that the infusion of these ingredients are like a Tennessee Williams play, one that tantalizes all your senses. Here's to Henry Ramos and the great playwright Tennessee Williams’ favorite cocktail.
