The Maya Angelou

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Sherry (medium dry)

  • ½ oz Crème de cacao

  • 2 oz Ginger Ale

Preparation: Pour all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Stir gently for 30 seconds. Pour into a wine glass.

This Bacchus Tales original cocktail was made in honor of the great artist Maya Angelou and her love for Sherry and the interview below is taken from The Paris Review.

GEORGE PLIMPTON- You once told me that you write lying on a made-up bed with a bottle of sherry, a dictionary, Roget’s Thesaurus, yellow pads, an ashtray, and a Bible. Is the bottle of Sherry for the end of the day or to fuel the imagination?

MAYA ANGELOU- I might have it at 6:15 a.m. just as soon as I get in, but usually it’s about 11:00 when I’ll have a glass of Sherry.

GEORGE PLIMPTON- And then, finally, you write “The End” and there it is, you have a little bit of Sherry.

MAYA ANGELOU- A lot of Sherry then.
